I don't recall what year the "latest and greatest" compensator was installed at the factory, but even those had some noise problems. There seemed to be a quality control problem with the springs and they would loosen over time and allow the rattle. For awhile, Harley replaced the compensators until the spring problem was figured out, then it began to put in shims to tighten the springs that were there. I recently replaced a type 1 SE compensator with the latest and greatest and pre-emptively added the smallest spring from the previous comp to the new spring pack so I wouldn't have to go back in if the new springs softened a bit. That was last fall and not many miles on it yet, but so far, so good. The current comp seems to have adequately addressed all of the previous weaknesses. Some guys insist on going after market for an additional $100+ dollars, their money, their choice. I got 70,000 miles out of my original SE comp, I don't know if I will keep this machine long enough to accumulate 70,000 miles on the new one, presently just shy of 93,000 miles total. Others have well addressed your right side noise possibilities, good luck. With a windshield, noise reflects and can be farther back than you believe it to be.

Do a Comp, delete and be done , if it fixes it and it is against your religion,
at least you know what the problem was and replace it with new and or better.

No, 2006. They changed the design in 2007 and have had problems ever since.

And they've changed it since then as well.

My 2015 Limited is the best motorcycle I have ever owned. A few hiccups, but all in all a great motorcycle!
