Is there such a thing as a "GPS like" portable radar???
You know, something on your scoot that could display a weather map so you could assess the situation and find an alternate route around a pending storm up ahead??? Weather radio is OK but a pic is worth a thousand words.
There is a company you can subscribe to that will provide weather for your cell phone. It's mainly for pilots with airport and navigational info if needed, but does show detail of current weather and will work just as well for people on the ground. It's$12.95 a monthand you can find it at www.my-cast.com/pilot It may be cheaper to upgrade your phone than purchase a GPS with weather options. I've never used this kind of service, but i found it within one of my flying magazines. I think there is another company that offers similar weather for cell phones. You may want to try googling for cell phone weather services to find them.
I have the weather channel on my cell phone, cost me 3.95 a month but I think it is well worth it with all the time I spend on my bike and boat. I have a Garmin GPS Map 478 for my boat and truck and one of the options is XM satelite weather, it lays the weather radar over top of the map. The Zumo 550 website (http://www.garmin.com/zumo ) says that weather is available with XM not sure if they have the radar option though.
