This past summer had the same issue after putting a chrome front end on my wife's sg. It turned out to be the ignition switch. I thought we had ever thing lined up correctly when we put it back together but after an hour of making sure no wires where pinched after putting it together turn out the ignition wasn't lined up correctly. Did the same thing with a screwdriver but wasn't lined up.
my bet is on ignition switch not lined up. i had the same thing happen on my 06. i thought i had it in right but after a hour of messing with it finally got it lined up correctly
I replaced the handlebars on my son's 2012 Electra Glide Limited, all the wiring went fine, handlebars went in with no problem, etc. So I connected the ignition console back up, connected the light in the fairing, re-installed the radio, and checked all connectors and everything was 100%. But when I put the main fuse back in and turned the bike on, nothing works, zero, nothing. At first it seemed like there must be a fried fuse, because the battery is new and I had checked it earlier and it's fine, but I checked all the fuses and they are all okay. I rechecked all the connectors and everything is connected but the bike has no power when the ignition is turned on. The "blinking red key" on the dash flashes so I know there is juice from the battery, but when I turn on the ignition nothing works. Anyone had this happen before? This has me totally at a loss, it makes no sense especially since I only replaced the handlebars, it has nothing to do with the operation of the bike. Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated, I'm out of idea's of things to do/check and the bike won't turn on.
did you do the wiring inside or outside the bars?
I agree with others that question the alignment of the ignition switch. But I know my first attempt I reversed the order of the pins on harness on reassembly
Even thought I have pulled the switch **** off several times, I had not had any difficulty getting the switch aligned with a screwdriver until the last time I tried. It would not align so the switch would turn off every time. I ordered the tool but the one I ordered didn't fit my year...my fault for not paying attention to details. I decided that the tool was a ridiculous waste considering how easy it would be to fabricate one from an old screwdriver. It took about 20 minutes with a Dremel tool to turn an old screwdriver into what I needed. The working end is the exact dimensions of the working end of the switch **** and works perfect.
