I replaced the handlebars on my son's 2012 Electra Glide Limited, all the wiring went fine, handlebars went in with no problem, etc. So I connected the ignition console back up, connected the light in the fairing, re-installed the radio, and checked all connectors and everything was 100%. But when I put the main fuse back in and turned the bike on, nothing works, zero, nothing. At first it seemed like there must be a fried fuse, because the battery is new and I had checked it earlier and it's fine, but I checked all the fuses and they are all okay. I rechecked all the connectors and everything is connected but the bike has no power when the ignition is turned on. The "blinking red key" on the dash flashes so I know there is juice from the battery, but when I turn on the ignition nothing works. Anyone had this happen before? This has me totally at a loss, it makes no sense especially since I only replaced the handlebars, it has nothing to do with the operation of the bike. Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated, I'm out of idea's of things to do/check and the bike won't turn on.
Damn security stuff.. I don't have any on my 08 flhxs and anytime I work on my buddy's 11cvo I have to make sure he leaves all of his keys, and extra batteries with me.. It gives me hell everytime, I'm just not used to it tho . You will figure it out OP. Get all the components with, change the batteries just to make sure it's not something dumb and give it a go
MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE FOB BATTERY IN RIGHT!
I JUST changed mine out and put them in upside down, guess who was about to tear the security system out and light it on fire when someone on here suggested flipping the battery over...
As mentioned, if you turn the ignition switch and get no power to the gauges/radio/etc, you have the tumblers misaligned in the ignition switch, or the main power harness TO the ignition switch disconnected.
You should get power to all devices regardless of the security system.
Re-think your steps and make sure the wiring's 100% correct...along w/ignition alignment. I drew my own schematics for all wires, during my bar swap project...FWIW. Something's obviously amiss somewhere & sometime's is one simple connection error.
Handlebars and electrical problems go hand in hand and are a regular topic around HDF. You may simply have dislodged some wiring, or damaged a wire while refitting things. The two switch housings are tight and a trapped/pinched wire is common. Retrace your steps with great care.
you sure you stabbed the ignition switch correctly
Hey Memphis, yes I put the ignition switch in and it seated all the way to the bottom, and when I turned it all the way left and right I got the click, click, click at each of the settings, so I don't think it's an issue of the ignition switch not being inserted all the way. Thanks for the thought though, any other ideas, I'm open to anything at this point. This whole issue is just so odd and I'm at a loss as to what the issue could be.
