Thanks for the replies. So with taking the pressure off I'm just putting it Into 5th gear, rotating the tire and feeling/looking at the spark plug hole ?

I might as well change the pushrod covers too .

Are you talking about taking pressure off the valve train and rocker arms before unbolting the rocker plate?
If so, you need to make sure both cams are on their base circles and both valves are fully closed. This is best accomplished by removing the covers so you can see the ends of the pushrods.

Why change the pushrod covers? If you're doing it because you want them black, yes, now would be the time to do it.

You're going to want to remove the spark plugs, put it in 5th gear, rotate the rear wheel while watching the rocker arms and pushrods. There's a ton of videos on youtube on how to get it on the base circle.

On the base circle...

There are two cam positions where the lifters will be at the bottom of their stroke for a particular cylinder..... one is on the base circle, one is not... it is in "overlap". Rotate the rear wheel in the highest gear & watch the lifters/pushrods/rocker arms. If the above are all the way down & NEITHER move while you continue to rotate the wheel, that is the base circle. If, as one lifter reaches the bottom of it's stroke the other immediately starts to rise, this is overlap, not what you want.

Spin the engine over a couple of times & you'll easily see the difference

So I forgot to mention this and not sure If it changes much. I upgraded my motor from a 96 to a 107 . Compression has changed as well. Does this change the overall project , torque specs ,etc ? Or does it still boil down to finding tdc and I'm good to go.

No difference in torque specs or finding TDC
