Default Changing Rocker Boxes

Considering changing my rocker boxes to gloss black on my 07 Road King . Anyone have instructions on this? I see the upper portion is easy but the lowers have some risk involved. Im pretty mechanical but don't want to destroy my motor. Thanks .

It’s outlined pretty well in the service manual to include step by step instructions, torque values, etc.

A service manual is necessary to do this type of work.

Once you have the service manual it's pretty easy. Your biggest concern, in my opinion, would be making sure you get the torque values right and putting the pushrods back in the correct holes. Might wanna do the breathers and consider rocker lockers while you're in there.

Plug any passages where anything could fall into the pushrod tubes, valves or vent holes. Clean out EVERY hole with threads before re-assembly. Remove ALL old gasket material. Mind the orientation of the lower rocker box gasket or you'll block the vent. Replace older plastic or aluminum breather assemblies with the newer stamp steel units. This would also be a good time to drill the oil return holes in the rocker assembly to 1/8". The pushrods don't have to come out. Don't be intimidated, you can do it.

Just a quick note about changing breathers...

If you change from the old style plastic to the new metal breathers (recommended) you MUST use shorter bolts. If you get the complete kit it comes with the bolts, if you get individual breathers ask your dealer. Using the old, longer bolts with the new breathers can/will blow out the bottoms of the bolt holes in the heads
