Default Rider backrest

Just came back from a 1200 mi scoot across Pa. and back on Rt. 6. My roll pack luggage fit perfectly on the passenger seat and also doubled as a backrest. WOW, what a difference a backrest makes on a long trip. I want to go a little more permanent and install the HD backrest for my bike. (07 FLHTC). I imagine this will be an easy install but would like any tips or tricks in advance I may need to know. As always - thanks in advance for all your help guys... Bill

Its a pretty straight forward install. With my new bike I upgraded to the adjustable back rest. Should have done it looooonng ago! Well worth the price difference IMO.

There are several types of rider back rests available. I got the one with a remote so I could adjust the bck rest while moving. The down fall to this back rest is it is very thick so if you want a passenger it is possible you may not have enough room for you. in other words if he/she most likely she is shall I say heathy she may put you on the tank. The good news is this you may want to remove the back rest to lean on her. It only takes 30 seconds or so. It is a easy install. If you get the remote it could be agervating to get the mounting screw in the hole down by the frame.

Check out the back rests on Ebay. I bought two there and saved a couple of hundred dollars.

If you buy the standard one from HD (not the adjustable one), and you're 6' tall or more, be prepared to alter it just a touch to allow you to sit further back. It will feel like you're being pushed forward otherwise. (Not a big deal to fix though)
