Default Sundowner on 2017 Ultra Limited Review

I’m about in the middle of a 1300 mile few day trip. The seat on my ultra is nice but I wanted an improvement so I upgraded into a sundowner from San Francisco Harley.

Comparing it to the stock it definitely moves you back and it’s about the same height. It’s firmer compared to my 20k stock seat. I’ve read it moves you foreward, maybe compared to other seats but definitely not compared to an stock ultra. As for the passenger the sundowner is a little SMALLER and firmer. It’s still seems plenty big and has more of a coke bottle shape where the passenger and rider sections meet as compared to an overall 2 liter shape of the stock seat. We will see how the wife likes it later.

My stock seat holds you in front to back it that makes sense, it’s also shaped like straddling a log. The shape pushes me foreword and my crotch rests up against the front “horn” area. For short rides I like it as it holds you in place. It’s by no means uncomfortable but looking for something better. If anything it feels sporty and stable. Just so you know I’m 6ft 200#.

I have an adjustable Harley back rest and it is kind of a problem with the stock seat. The stock sear has a build up lower back rest that the rider backrest pushes foreword, pushing me up more into the horn of the saddle, it gets a little cramped especially if I have the backrest adjusted anything more that towards the back. Without the backrest I think it’s pretty adequate, the backrest itself is amazing FYI.

The Sundowner doesn’t seems to have these problems. The back part of the rider seat is about an inch lower so is doesn’t interfere with the rider backrest. Moving the backrest front to back doesn’t effect the seat ergonomics. Its also a little wider and flatter, less of that “straddling a log” shape. There is also maybe 2 inches more room front to back to wiggle around as needed.

For under $350 out the door it seems worth every penny. I’ll update in a few days after I eat up another 700 miles or so.
