Rain Riding
I rode to work friday even though rain was in the forecast. I left a little after three in the afternoon and rode twenty five miles in a torrential downpour, bike handled well and even though I didnt bother to wear my rainsuit it was a decent 25 mile ride. Helps show all the folks around that getting wet aint all that bad.
Well Wednesday, I turned around and went back to the watering hole before the rain hit.
Wasn't so much getting or not getting wet, but more about the hail I just knew was in the storm and the lightning.
Well g/f wanted to go anyway. 15 miles to the house and no protection on the way, just open ground and rolling hills.
We waited 20 minutes and the storm hit,
About 10 minutes of hail about 3/4 inch in diameter and then the rain, couldn't see across a two spot wide parking lot to the next building.
It was a good thing I waited.

what is it, raining across the US right now? i rode today and yesterday and got soaked from my ankles to my knees. do the Ultra style fairing's work at blocking the rain. i barely got wet waist up, but i was soaking freaking wet from my knees down. but i do agree, i'd rather ride the bike wet than ride in the car dry. but i was just wondering about the lower fairings, because i don't mind getting wet, but i hate getting cold AND wet. i was thinking about buying the lower fairings for this winter.

Rain doesn't bother me as much as the wind. Seems to me, cagers slow down in the rain, making it safer for me. But, when it is windy as hell, and I am being blown all over the road, the cages zip past me. I hate that. I am lucky enough that where I work, we are allowed to park in the parking garage. I was realy glad for that, as I rode to work last week, knowing it was going to rain. Sure enough, it did, and a lot of hail came down. I am glad my bike was not in that. I hate all those little dimples from hail. I had a Jeep that got plummeted with hail, once. It was so bad, that it smashed in the windsheild. If it had been the bike, I would still be crying about it. LOL
It's not bad at all riding in the rain unless we're talking high wind and raining sideways. Visibility just goes in the crapper and the danger factor is way up there. When it gets like that, it's time for a long cup of coffee at a Diner to wait out the worst of it.
Getting wet in the rain is part of riding. I don't mind getting wet and my wife is good for it also. I agree with the high wind and rain. Got caught in Hot Springs with 40 mph winds and 4" of rain in 4 hours. Rode 60 miles to the hotel at 25 mph. I was ready for a hot cup of coffee. The wife went to sleep. Oh well.
