I know that you asked for a 'direct replacement', but you might want to give the HD's lay back a second look. It's shaped to match the contour of the rear fender, and to me, makes the stock style look more like an add-on that sticks out. I don't know if you've considered smoked lenses along with your LEDs, but I think it's a nice upgrade as well. Of course this is just my opinion, and not necessarily yours. Regardless, you're going to be happy with your LED lighting. It's a game changer for see and be seen.

I have the BAL-1 on two of my bikes and the Custom Dynamics GEN II Squareback LED tail light on one.
They are both quality units..... They are both much brighter than OEM...they are both easy installs...
The BAL-1 costs a little more, and has some built-in fancy flashing sequences you can choose from, as well as 3 brightness levels. The reason I tried the Custom Dynamics is because I don't care about, or use, all the fancy flashing options.... so I thought why pay for all that, and I saved about $50 on the CD light...
I don't think you can lose with either choice...
Bottom line for me is:
If you want a dependable, bright LED replacement light and want to be able to control multiple aspects of the light, with numerous different flash patterns, get the BAL-1.
If you just want a dependable, bright LED replacement tail light, save $50 and get the Custom Dynamics..
IMHO.... the BAL-2, while it probably can be seen from outer space, in my mind is way too expensive and bright to the point of being obnoxious... I want people to see me, not to **** them off....
