I see 2 non stock wires,on the frame down tube above the oil filter. 2 beige wires with solderless connectors into 2 green wires. did you trace those down,to see where they go?
I recently installed the HD oil temp kit ($127 from Surdyke). I have seen the oil pan oil temp as high as 230 F, indicated, after hard runs. It typically runs between 180~200, more or less. I made a 200+ mile ride yesterday and the temp was hovering just below 230 F when I got home after a hard 25 mile run at 75 - 85 mph on the Sam Houston Tollway. I am interested to see how high it gets during our infamous Texas Gulf Coast summers...
That is the main reason I was looking at the install instructions. I just recently moved back to SC and we have all ready hit 90 deg days that's the average day in PA. I was running around 230 to 240 on the highway little more in town with traffic.. when I asked the dealer what the normal safe range is they told me they didnt know. With the temp it can reach down here just want to know what is safe. I am getting an oil cooler in a few weeks
The install instructions say to mount the sender in the pan unless you have the older model system that mounts the sensor in the oil line shown above. You can get the install PDF from the HD sales site...pull up the system and look for the documents tab.
A photo of the gauge you are concerned about would help answer your question...
