I'm looking to replace the standard buckhorn bars on my Road King and was wondering if someone could point me to a site where I could purchase a pair of 14" Apes. If you can also list everything else I would need to add to the order (riser, cables etc...) it would be appreciated.
I was also interested in knowing the difference in comfort between 12.5" or 14". I'm 5' 9" 175 and I don't want my arms too far over my head. Can anyone tell me if 12.5" would be better for me?
One last thing....I was wondering if there are any handlebar restrictions in MA or NH?
check out http://www.wild1inc.com/I just put w502's on my King and flat out love them. I am 5'11" and 165 and find them extremely comfy. They have the details or you can email them and they will give you the details of what you need. Wish I could help you more, but my indy installed them for me.
I am 6'1", so a bit taller than you. I put on 18" apes and the grips are at shoulder height. Make sure you check local laws reguarding handlebar height, before you begin. If that is good, I would go 16". I have read a lot where guys went with less, and wish they had gone 16". But, that is JMO.
I believe the handle bars must not be above your shoulders. I have talked to people with some tall apes and for the most part they are not hassled unless they are doing something stupid.
While I have heard the same thing, about not being hassled. I have also heard that at certain Rallies, it is enforced. If you have a copy of Easyriders mag laying around, they have a page in it that lists the height requirments. Some say 15" above seat. That would be like a set of drag bars. LOL NM is shoulder height, where I live, so I am good. Looked at the states where I might be traveling, and all seem like I would be okay. I was just trying to make sure that he was aware of the law, that's all.
Under MA general law C90 S7J, in MA handle bars on a MC can not be excessive in height (above shoulder height of the rider seated on the MC). It is a $25.00 citation.
Hey Guys thanks for the help I think 16" Apes it is. I'm usually well behaved but Iâll be prepared to sit up tall every now and again.
Back to the citation thing⌠I heard through a bud that they were hanging out in MA at a local gentlemenâs club on the NH boarder and all got flagged down when they left because of their novelty helmets. They actually had all their bikes towed because nobody had a backup DOT in their bag. Man I'm glad I've invested in that DOT carbon fiber helmet.
