I disconnected the fuel line, shined up the fitting, popped it back on. Fired it up and went for a spin after the roads dried off yesterday in an effort to use a couple tablespoons of fuel. After getting back to the garage, there's no RAW fuel smell! I believe it was nothing more than expansion from heat and filling tank a smidge too full and parking it on the jiffy stand. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
Thought I'd close the loop on this thread so someone else might be helped with a similar situation...
Turns out, after removing the console and leaning bike on the jiffy stand, fuel seeped out from under the rubber canopy gasket. The pics show the gasket in a bad way, all cracked and rotted. Went to the mother ship to acquire the new gasket, a new set of 10 canopy sealing screws, and a new rubber boot that fastens onto the console that goes around the filler neck. The canopy did not need to come completely off (out?) of the tank, simply raised up enough to pull off the old gasket and slip on the new. I wiped off the tank surface before installing the new one of course. My friends, it appears to have fixed the problem.
That's my story and I'm gonna stick with it

That is a quick disconnect fitting. The o-ring may be bad, but often times you can disconnect it, then re-connect it and all is good. On my old Electra Glide, I replaced the lines because you couldn't replace the o-ring(s) as a separately serviceable item from Harley. I've seen where guys have found a way to replace the o-ring, and I think there are kits on Amazon, but I didn't want to take the time to try and figure it out since new lines aren't horribly expensive. Good luck.
Well my 07 has an O ring and I changed it. Just matched it with one from my O ring kit.
Also you don't have to buy the whole assembly from HD. I was trying to cheat running wires under my tank for my Reckless fairing. Undid the back bolt only and lifted the tank. Cracked the quick connect. Lo and Behold its a very common piece available from NAPA for 4 bux as opposed to the $150 HD wanted. Apparently its used on GM and Chrysler cars. Hope this helps someone else. I found the answer on this forum when I was looking.
