I have a riders backrest mounting kit that I picked up from the local HD store and the price of the backrest pads are outrageous. Has anyone successfully fitted a backrest pad from say Amazon or eBay into the HD mount?
Mount kit is 52589-09A for 09 and later touring models.
Should be able to make them fit if needed. Just do your research most will say what they fit. May also check classified section on here. They come around often.
To answer your question, yes, I put an inexpensive aftermarket back rest clone I got off of Amazon on the stock seat back mount on my Ultra Annie. It was difficult to get on and off the original mount, but no more difficult to get on and off than the original backrest...which was a serious PITA. Even with the mount that came with the aftermarket backrest, it was not easy to put on and remove. I finally gave up on it and looked for a new seat.
It all went away when I put the Mustang Super Solo seat with the backrest and improved it with the optional offset backrest tongue which moves it back a couple of inches...very comfortable!

You will need to make sure that it is correct for the mount type, but I have found Matazu, and TCMT products to be very good clone products at a 1/4 of the price.
One thing to keep in mind, when buying the cheap china made clone products, is that they usually need some tweaking to mak them fit.
I just purchased a TCMT backrest pad, and it looks just like the HD top stitch pad. I got mine for $26 on amazon (as opposed to $119 from HD). But. . . . . . . the top threaded sleeve pulled right out out when I put the pad on. - It was a simple fix, as I just reglued it in place, but it didnt work right out of the box. Im fine with that to save the dough, but some are not.
Just be aware that you need to have some very basic mechanical skills to make the cheap stuff work.
