what the heck is this Isolated Drive System (IDS) on the new 08 touring model?

Believe it may only be available on the Ultra Glide Classic but not 100% on that point.

Saw the tech touring pdf file someone posted a link to and see the nice color picture but not smart enough to know what the heck it does. It says it is 'similar to vrsc' design.
