I don't know--I'm afraid you could be surprised by the tenacity of the remainder...

Just make sure you try a small spot on it first. A) so you can see how it reacts. B) to make sure it won't damage the material underneath. I've used it on chromed steel quite a bit. But never used it on chromed aluminum. So may want to read a bit and see if it will be safe for the aluminum.

Here is what I am working on. Solid aluminum. I sanded everything with many levels of sandpaper b4 buffing it up with Mother's and a drill. It came out well, except for the remaining chrome. You might notice it much at a glance, but there is definitely a difference, and I'm a bit of a perfectionist.

And ratpick...I fear you are totally correct.

I just did a set of those tips for a friend that tried everything. I chucked them in the lathe and took a thin cut. He sanded up,too 600 and buffed the crap out of them....they look chrome to me now...

So I wasted way too much time sanding then? I did like 10 steps of sandpaper from 180 up to 3K. Then buffed hard. Sounds like I went overboard. Do you recomend stopping at 600, or if going finer, to what grit?

Also, I'm kinda glad I'm not the only one that had the problem. I called Mike up, and he had never heard any complaints. Said he hadn't done chrome tips in years. He did offer to send me powdercoated ones if I sent these back. Which seamed nice of him, but I bought chrome for a reason, I have ZERO interest in anything but chrome tips. However, now that I am saying it right now, I just realized, that I could remove powder coating super easy with Aircraft Paint remover, then buffed. Damnit...maybe I should have taken Mike up on that offer......
