Fairing mounting
I did not want the inner fairing, I just wanted the look and windshield for those little buggies! But, there are quick disconnects out there. I know a guy here locally, who makes one with the outer, inner and speaker setup. It simply plugs into the motorcycle with a charging plug so you can use the plug to trickle your battery when the fairing is off the bike. I saw it in person going on a Road King Classic using the quick mounts for the stock windshield. It was on and off in a matter of seconds. This guy is only like 30 miles from me. I remember it being around $800 or so.

If I could not get a Dead Center Cycles fairing,IMO it would be better to get one that bolts on!
I can't see even spending that kind of money and have someone strole up to the bike and pop it all off in less then 30 seconds and walk down the street with it and you never see it again!!!!
As it is you have to through bolt the rear bags any more to keep some theif from popping the sping with a jimmy and walking away with them too.
Dead Center Cycles, fairing has a lock, if you tried to take it off it would be tantamount to totally distroying it.
I was only giving a suggestion, that is all. I don't know these guys (Wide Open) from a whole in the ground. I was just giving some ideas. I had only seen these models in person so I offered a suggestion. I was not familiar with the "DEAD CENTER CYCLES" fairing. I just looked it up. Looks pretty cool and the lock looks useful. Can that lock be keyed the same as my bike?
A 197'(S) something Shovel "King Of The Road" will fit your bike with stock brackets. No, quick disconnect brackets were not commercially available at the time. You had to make your own back than & we did.
My Point: Buy a fairing of this year (had a crappy radio case in place of an inner fairing) and repaint it to your color. Mine cost me $10.00 in 1985 when I put it on my STSC (Softail Super Custom). I made quick disconnects & chromed the stock brackets. I still have the fairing and just bought a Road King a few weeks ago. Suggestion: Buy it, modify it to suit, forget about the radio and inner fairing. Get a tall windshield and mount it when ever you need it like; monsoon season that we have here in Southern Florida. With the money you save, you can buy something else like rubbers and/or beer, lots of gas also. By the way, if you buy the Ultra Lowers along with this set up, make all quick disconnect and take it off at the hotel door along with the tour pack. Riding is what it is all about. You will not get too wet unless you are caught at a light. This is what I plan to do with my Road King. Great time to stop for a drink & meet a girl. And in answer to "It can't be done" anything can be done, just get off that couch and do it

I've heard the lock argument for Dead Center Cycles alot. Is fairing theft really that much of a problem, or do I just live in a good area? Everywhere I've ridden, Washington State and Texas, guys leave their helmets and gloves on the bike and walk away. MUCH easier to steal, maybe harder to resell though. Seems like people would get suspicious quick if some guy was lugging a fairing down the street. I also still have my bags, not locked down, with everything in them, also not locked, my sissy bar, not locked down, and plenty of guys still have their windshields, not locked down.
