I'm not saying Dead Center Makes a bad product. I'm sure it's great. I'm just wondering how valid that argument really is. I'm sure I'll get the "peace of mind" response back. If you want real piece of mind, weld that sucker on. With JB Weld of course
OK Just me thinking here. Why cant you take a inner fairing and mount it to a road king with the Nacelle off? Then the outer fairing will mount right on it. Isn't the front ends of a road king and a Electra or ultra the same minus the Nacelle ? I don't see why it wouldn't work. If you search this on the web you find a crap load of other metric bikes makingHarley fairingsfit. Why would it not fit its own brother the King? I know if I were to put the fairing on my king I wouldn't take it back off. I guess if you didn't hook up anything but the radioand filled the holes with caps and or speakers you wouldn't have to much of a problem. To me it sounds to easy with a little time and money. IMHO
I just bought an older fairing locally to put on my 98' Road king. I think it's around a mid 80's model. It won't be quick disconnect, but it will come off fairly quick by removing 4 nuts. It attaches to the bolts where the quick disconnects mount to the front of the bike. I was looking for just such a thing but not wanting to spend $800 + for it. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Can I make a Harley fairing quick detachable like Dragonfly or Quadzilla. Can I get and mount a Dragonfly or Quadzilla inner fairing to mount onto a stock Harley outer. I have a chance to get a HD outer for cheap$$ and use it on a RoadKing (2003)
I did some looking into this today and yes you can!! I know I am going to here how this can be done different or not at all but this is my opinion. You can get a kit like the one sold at http://www.mckayscyclecreations.com/I went to my buddies shop today and looked at an Ultra with its outer fairing off and came up with this. If you wanted to mount a fairing permanently it is to easy. Remove the necceal and install the inner, outer fairingand cap with all hardware. The supports cost around 100. from you dealer. and whatever you can get the fairings for. Now if you wanted to make it detachable You would need to do some trimming on the inner fairing and make the fairing supports look like the ones in the picture attached. The picture attached is a kit that can be bought for 300.00 that does what I just described. From what I have read on how people are Triming to mount these HD Fairing to their king's It seems like they are trying to just mount the outer fairing and I believe that if you don't have a inner fairing you don't have the strength designed for the new fairings.
