Based on all I know now, I'm going to say it's the tire. My handlebars wobbled like that at about 45 MPH when I took my hands off. New tire fixed it. Here's a video:
Just did the swing test. Pulled bars all the way left and let go. 6 sings until it stopped. Bars to the right 7 swings, #7 was just a tiny bit.
Tire had 39 1/2 of air, avon says 40lbs
I guess its a neck bearing adjustment. Grease it before or after?
I had the "wobble of death" years ago on my Honda VTX. Scared the pee-waddlings out of me. It was a tire issue. I had gone to the Dark Side. Never again.
Did you check your tire for cupping? Open hand, and run it both directions along the treads. If you feel an "edge" in one direction it is cupped and the cause of your issue.
Most likely you're going to go through all that with the neck bearing and still have the problem. It's almost certainly the tire or wheel. In my case the bike developed the death wobble only after I had put the tour pak back on after being in solo mode for a long period of time. The bike never showed any signs of a wobble until then. Shortly afterwards I needed to replace the tires. No more wobble and it's been great ever since, about 8,000 miles.
You could take off the tire/rim and check the balance with a homemade tire balancer. I've never heard of tire/rim not needing weights when checking balance.

I was there when he mounted and balanced the tire. He actually spun the tire twice in the machine because of it.
Might be a good time to add Ride On?
So the consensus seems to be the tire is bad along with the neck bearings needing adjustment?
I would for sure ajust the neck bearings that's way to loss. I ajusted mine with out a tool, used a piece a metal had that was 1/8 thick. Was able to get in there and tap it around. Think I had to take radio out to get to it. Grease it first , if you don't it might get loose after greasing it. Probably best to grease it ride it then ajust it.
