Default Front tire

Need some help with front tire size. I have searched google and this site with no real answers. Bike is an 08 Ultra that I have replaced the front wheel and tire with the wheel and tire from an 09 Streetglide. I liked the factory rim from the 09 better then mine and got a great deal on it off of Craigslist. I am in need of a new front tire very soon and would like to run a bigger tire, similar to the 180 fat tire kits from several vendors. Does anyone know how big of a 17" tire I can run without modifications or buying one of the kits? Current tire is a 130/80-17.

I'm running a 140 70 18 on a 3.5 inch rim with no issues. you might be able to slide a 140 75 17 in there. The load range looks right on the Dunlop, Metzler pirelli and Avon.

I'd check the width max and load range on the 140. It should fit.

If you went to an 18 wheel you might be able to go 150. 17 is an odd size

Thanks for the reply. Current wheel is staying as I like the rim and don't have the desire to spend money on another rim. That said I am looking at something a little fatter. Does anyone know of a website that gives overall tire dimensions so I could compare tire to tire?

You might find a 140, but will you really notice the 3/8”? It will be hard to find a tire designed for front fitment much wider than that. I have purposely kept my 17” rim on my Streetglide for the fact that it’s the same size tire every ultra and Limited has used for 11 years. If you ride much it’s nice to know you use the most common touring tire there is. Make sure whatever you look at is load rated for your bike.
