Well a 2019 is way out of my budget, but if those are slow, the others might be as well. I do plan on getting one, might be selling the sportster to do it. Its just the few times I run the sportster to town for errands, I am sure its easier to maneuver than an Ultra would be.

Not slow at all, after riding it, Ive decided that this thing is staying stock, the only thing getting changed is the windshield and seat.
Currently we are on an RV trip. Sitting in the 5th wheel in Quartzsite, AZ for the week, then on to the nephews house in PHX for a few days. He is working, but my niece is the head of some local chapter (sorry, she told me but I forgot) and I will be riding my nephews Ultra Limited (2006 I think). Its a fund raiser for a Salt River wild horse herd.
After the ride we will be visiting the Scottsdale AZ HD dealer. Looking forward to drooling over a lot of bikes there. Based on what I have seen on craigslist in PHX area, I might be coming this way to buy when the day comes.

So a question on the 6 speed trannys. I understood the early ones had too tall of a 6th gear, so what year did HD correct this? Did the '09s still have it?
Well first they were not to tall. The 07 Touring bikes were a little taller . Some riders stuck in the past griped , so Hd lower it a bit. I put 75,000 miles on an 07 TC96 RG. Never an issue
Their idea of too tall, made sense to me, as 6th gear, they said, did not allow enough RPM for lug free cruising below 65. Those are the comments, and seem to make sense. I would not want to HAVE to cruise at 70+ to feel 6th gear was not lugging or close really. Kinda like my sportster at 55 in 6th. It will do it but any roll on has to be pretty gradual or it will lug.
I am not one that likes to cruise at 80 for extended periods. I have no problem getting to that or above when needed but just not cruising there.

There's the solution to your search right there! Sort out your priorities man. Sell that RV and buy the brand new touring bike of your dreams asap. Sorry.... Those are my priorities. I got 'em mixed up
Just a note on your concerns regarding the the additional weight of the bigger bike. You know how to ride, so it's a non issue when the bike is moving down the road. I believe your concern is slow moving in and through town, parking lots etc. Just spend some time watching some of the 'Ride Like a Pro' videos. There are lots of free ones on YouTube, or get the full package through their web site. Once you have the bike, find a vacant parking lot to practice the friction zone etc in those slow maneuvers. You'll get it down pat in no time. You won't be taking the car into town,,, you'll be asking your wife if you can run in to pick her up some milk or something.
Good luck with your purchase. You'll never look back.
Edit: I have no idea what it's like to ride a Sporty. But with a touring bike, you don't want to EVER come to a full stop with the front brake, especially if the bars are turned at all. If you do, then you have to do that whole pick up the bike thing.

Well this trip might turn out to be worth it. One of the couples we traveled here with has a friend selling his 2009 Ultra Classic. I have yet to see pics but talking to the guy we traveled with, and the seller on the phone it sounds really nice. Custom paint, that our friend says is really nice, and UNDER 9,000 miles on it. Looking for somewhere between 10k and 12k, he says. I will get pics tonight hopefully. Might just end up with one before my planned fall timeline. Under 9000 miles is pretty uncommon. I see a lot more, under 20k but this is the first under 10k much less 9.
Time will tell.
From what I read the difference is twin cooled head on the Limited vs the Classic? Or am I way off on this?
