Default Rear tire removal

For a 2008 RK, to remove rear tire I was planning to remove lower shock bolts allowing to move the swingarm up to access the axle bolts and avoid removing slip ons. Anyone here successfully do that? I know removing slips ons is pretty easy, but figured this would be easier, and no need to purchase new exhaust clamps.

I did that once. I dunno what best is. One bike has cycle shack which I can clear. Other fat cat, which has to come off on on side, If memory serves. Curious what people say they prefer.

I remove the slipons and I don't replace the clamps, I reuse them.

That's how I remove the rear wheel. No need to remove the slip ons.

If you are lazy and brave, I watched the tire guy change my tires once at a shop that specialized in motorcycle tires. Scariest thing I ever watched. To get the rear axle out, he removed the hanger bolts on the slip and just pushed the slip on down enough for the axle to slide out over the top of it. Then when he did the front, he put a regular floor jack under the right floorboard mount and jacked the front onto the kickstand until the front tire was off the ground. Used air tools to pop the brakes off and then the axle. Scary to watch but he was fast as hell and everything was fine when he was done.

Slip ons are the mufflers.

I am thinking, you are thinking the torca clamps, the exhaust clamps. He was asking about removing the exhaust or disconnecting the shock, to gain access to the axle, to change the tire

Some mufflers are thin enough, you don't have to remove them to gain access to the axle or nut.

I've seen the jack to get the front up while on the kickstand. Kinda maybe curious about lowering the excaust. I dunno.

Thought I was as lazy as they come and I remove the the slip-ons (factory mufflers in my case). Have done the usual number of tires in 94,000 miles and the clamps seem to work just fine, every time. Never replaced. The mufflers have been off and back on more times than just for tires, sometimes to ease access for other work, hunting for squeaks, change the little rubber hangar pieces, to thoroughly clean the mufflers after being in rain. Lots of reasons, lots of times. The clamps have never been a problem.

Yup, that's how I do it. Just a matter of the proper amount of up and down with the bike jack and all goes fine. No need to deal with the slip-ons at all.
