Proper etiquette for treating non HD riders?
Reason I asked was that last night some friends asked me to go to a local cruise night/ bike show. As they were coming from the south and I was coming from the north, I told them that I would meet them there.I alsotold them that I was going to ride my street legal 1972 Honda trail 70 that I customized over the winter. Because it was a bike show and a lot of people might like to see it. (after all everyone had one of those when they were kids).
When I pulled in I located a spot to park in between a couple of HDs. The guy next to me was on a sportster he promptly looked over at me a said "dick" and grabbed his bike and walked off with it.I just thought wow...then a bunch of people came to look at my scooter and we talked about the good times we all had on them as kids!
My buddies asked me if I wanted to go for a ride about midway threw the show and I said yes but I wanted to run the Honda home and get my Road King. They told me that they would wait for me and I left. When I returned with the RK I saw that the spot next to the sportster was open and I decided to pull in next to this guy again and only hope that he opened his mouth so I could give him a piece of my mind. Now mind you that I didn't change clothes and I didn't have any HD or leather on either.
Well guess what, he says "nice bike". I just turned and looked him square in the eyes and said "dick"! He turned and walked away. I felt bad afterwards but I didn't feel that I should be treated any different because I was there to have a good time. Just like he was!
What's the best way to handle the confrontations between different riders?
Moral of the story...Ride with Pride, and F* 'em all!!
Now I ride with a club that has 90% Gold Wings, gives them lots to joke about. I think they are just jealous because I ride a Harley.
Everyone is equal when on two wheels.
I got more smiles than a man should have at the "dick" comment broughtbrings back a great memory I have..
I have been riding for 40+ yrs..since I was 5 yrs old..my first bike was the even smaller versionHonda 50 Mini trail...a few years ago, I had the lucky chance to ride one again..picture a man 6'5", 265 lbs on a Mini trail..and that was me..Rode it around the block and went with a friend to the local cycle shop to get some parts for hisbike..as it wasa few miles up the road, I rod the Mini..it was an outright blast..well, we got to the shop, went inside and after finding our stuff, we were at a parts counter and there were a couple guys there talking..(they were on a mix of bikes--Harleys, Kawasakis, etc..) and one of em standing right in front of me, turned to his friend and made the comment "I wonder what Dumba$$ MF rode that thing here"..I politely tapped him on the shoulder, as he was probably a good 6 inches shorter and 100 lbs less than me, and said.."Dumba$$ MF standing right behind you"..the look on his face was worth every word..one of those deer in the headlight, **** in your pants look..As he and his friends were getting ready to leave, very quietly I will say, I got on that Mini 50, headed out of the parking lot, looked back at the guy, and with a smile on my face, gave him the finger..you should have seen him laugh!
Thanks for the story of yours..and a beautiful piece of childhood memory you got there!!
All two-wheeled rides are good, except for crotch rockets.
I try to be nice to everyone who rides, what ever bike. If they act like an a$$, that is another thing. I see that from many makes of bikes, though!
I had a gold one of those when I was 9 or 10. My pops brought it home for me one day and that was the beginning.
I rode that dam thing around a 20 mile radius from my house. Going out first thing in the morning and not coming back till night. If mom & dad only knew where I was ridin to. I remember one time ridin an exit or two on I495 LIE at about 10 yrs old with a girl on the back doing 55-60mph. The cagers were lookin at me like I was crazy!
Man, that was fun back then. I wrecked mine in a crash, bent the hell out of it and that was the end of my trail 70.
My 10yr old son is pushing me for his first ride right now, if he only knew!!!
The guy was a dick! Enjoy!
You look like you got alittle mass behind ya though, I bet you sure did look alittle funny on a 70...lol. Don't give up the King.
