I have been meaning to circle back to this thread. I am sure I am being dense about this but I cannot seem to find the 'small hole' on each side of the compartment you are referring to. When I do find it, are you running the USB cable behind the media compartment, through the back of the fairing, to the handlebar somehow? Does any part of the fairing have to come off to do this? I do not see a path to run the USB cable that allows for it to run from the back or the side of the compartment without having to eventually through the front, where the media compartment door is, to get to the handlebar. I have a 2019 CVO Street Glide, is something different in the design of the media compartment?
Would someone please respond to my question above? Thanks in advance.
Sorry for the delayed response...you do not have to take off the fairing. My bike is a 19 SG but not a CVO ...when I remove the foam padding there is a small round hole on the right side of the media compartment...I feed the wire through that hole and then run along the outside of the compartment toward the handlebar. You can put the foam padding back in when after you feed the wire. Ill try to get a pic tomorrow.

Thank you for your reply via PM and the detailed picture. I am responding here in case others have the same question(s) I do.
As you can see from the picture, the front lip of the media compartment is wider than the point at which the cable would come of the hole on the right side. My question is, how you are routing the cable back to the front of the handlebar and around that lip? I hope my question makes sense.
I see. I didn't think I had that gap when my media compartment door is closed. I just ran to the garage and checked and found that I do! I don't think its as wide of a gap as the one on your bike but it is definitely there. Thank you so much for dumbing it down for me with the pictures!
This obviously is not a huge problem - I mean it's not mechanical or engine related. However, it has been a huge pet peeve of mine since I got the bike about a year ago. Guys like you make this forum so valuable! Thanks again!
Gotta love H-D Forums, the search function, and guys willing to share.
I never needed to route a lightning cable out of the media compartment until now with CarPlay, and like everyone else, there is no way to do so without pinching (and in my case, breaking) the lightning cable when the door was closed. My first thought was filing a slot for the cable until I found this thread.
I routed my cable out the hole and then out the opening as described above and it works perfectly.
Thanks Nightworm!
I got a shorter charging cable from Amazon, with a small round file I cut a small groove in the plastic, zip tied the cable to the bars, problem solved. The door opens/closes like it's not even there.
I did the same thing, small round file and all is well, I use the USB cord to keep my go pro camera thats mounted on the right side crash bar charged.
Now that the iPhone 15, with a USB-C connector, has been out for about 4 months, how is everyone getting the USB-C connector through the hole on the right side of the media compartment? I found a low profile USB-C connector that fits through the hole but the connector is too long to fit all the way through.
