Hello Pete

About a year ago I dropped almost 7k into my 1999 road king and did revolution performance 124kit . I know crazy right . But it runs good . If I had to do it over I would have bought a newer one anything motor related I would not mess around with cams and heads . After doing that I cracked the swing arm some say it's the power from motor I say BS 20 year old bike ....

Upgrade to 09 or newer imo

The 02 has a stronger swing arm. My 99 I beefed up the swing arm. 135xxx miles riding mostly two up last 66,000. It needs beefed up before it brakes though. Also has solid bushing in it now.

I am curious about this. Post 2006 emmission laws, things got hot, with tune and tight cams. Keep in mind older TC did not have cats. I'd be curious to know how much different the heat is. I know someone with 114 and he complains about heat. But thats a big motor.

There’s a lot on both sides of the fence. Good idea with keeping a paid off bike which is what I’m leaning toward. But the Rushmore bikes have plenty of upgrades and prices are coming down. I’ve always been able to find a low mileage garage queen for a great price.

I found a Queen two month ago Oh let me rephrase that last statement its a King, 03 Road King FLHRI to be exact. Having only 64,144 on its clock with already in the neighborhood of $3,000+ in HD bling all for the price of $1,600 and of course my old 02 FXD. Nothing wrong with "old bikes" still got my wife after 43 yrs and she still rides great,LOL. New deals are great for what ever they are but an "Old Glove" you just don't through away do you.

Secondly my Bike Mechanic doesn't like working on ANYTHING newer than 2007 says they are a P I T A $ $. Some of you might think he would not have much work since he limits himself to working on bikes older then 2007, well you'd be wrong on that thought.

You don't have to go all out to upgrade an older bike for what you want out of it just find the right parts for it and don't wast your time and money on what the other guy/gal did too there bikes. Put in to it what you want to get out of it. I know that last statement sounds dumb you never get what you put into a bike what you end up selling it for, be honest you know I'm right.

I was recently in the same situation. I have a 2003 RK classic anniversary with 15,000 miles. The rear suspension was shot. It was OK if I was one up, but 2 up sucked. I did some research and decided on replacing the rears with a new set of Progressive suspensions 444's. I opted for the 12.5 inch heavy duty's since I am 6-5 , 300lbs. They typically run about $679.00. But I found a guy on ebay selling brand new ones for $589.00.
Took about a week to get them and 30 minutes to install them. Ill tell you, it has made such a huge difference in my bike and the ride. I have them set at the softest setting and its perfect. I would recommend these shocks to anyone looking for a great inexpensive upgrade.

Hit me up if you want more info.

I have a 2011 FLHP 103 (police seat and stock rear fender rack) with stage II and dyno tune, SE 255 cam. She will almost lift the front wheel in 1st/2nd. With a market value of about $9000 (45K miles), she is staying put. I could THROW another 20K at the problem (a newer motorbike), but what for? I like RKs, and the simpler, the more RK they are.
