I had 2 of them, 1 for me and 1 for my wife, neither of us like them on a touring bike. I sold mine to another member here. I spent so much money on stuff, air pads, Alaskan sheep skin, several seats, beads, etc. My dad uses the Alaskan sheepskin on his stock seat and works for him. guess it comes down to trial and error to find what works. hopefully everyone finds the answer though

Seats are a personal preference. Over the years Corbin, Corbin Gentry, Mustang, Ultimate, Travelcade, Wing Soft moded, gel pad, Sherling covers. I'm 5 9" , 250, 31 inch inseam. After years of riding the two best seats were a Russell Day Long all leather, with their spring support mods and the other was a Tom Simmons Original all leather. Tailored to you personal height weight and inseam. Neither has gel. Various densities of iso foam layered to give support and comfort over long periods in the saddle. Some say the Russell is ugly, I responded with " Do you want to ride in comfort or do you want to look at it ? " Tom Simmons is the same quality..Both are awesome seats and both are expensive. IMHO you can't go wrong with either.

This is an eventual, typical response in all.. seat threads....

I have never read, or heard, a complaint on the comfort or quality of a Russell Day Long seat.

The only negatives I've heard/read, and the reason I haven't bought one yet, is that for us vertically challenged folks, it will sit you up a little higher than stock and MAY cause some issues flat footing the bike. The other complaint is that some think it's ugly..... but as to quality or comfort, I've never heard a complaint...

Every other brand, from inexpensive to $1K+ seats, have people declaring it's the holy grail, AND people saying they hated theirs...... very subjective...

I am sure I will be going to the RDL in the near future, since I've tried about a half dozen other seats without finding "the one".... even if I only use the RDL for multi-day trips, it seems to be the comfort standard....

If, you do go with RDL you will very happy I'm sure..They really build a great seat that's made for you.. They are shaped that way so you carry your body weight on your butt, not your thighs, like a horse saddle. It or the Tom Simmons is next in my list of things to do.. Enjoy your new seat.

OP, I did extensive research on seats. I'm sure there are a number of aftermarket seats out there that will fit the bill for you. You'll see a lot of guys recommending the RDL. I had thought about going with another aftermarket seat that was cheaper than an RDL but I didn't want to end up like some guys purchasing several seats before they found the "ONE".
The thread below is a good read on seats one of our members tried out on his bikes.

Russell Day Long
