Default 2018 Ultra, tuner needed?

I know this has been talked about before here on this forum. I have a 2018 Harley Ultra, M8. Everything is stock at this time. I have a set of stock pipes that have been "de-catted" and then ceramic coated inside and out.

Here is my question.

Do I need to install a tuner for just changing the pipes to "de-catted" pipes? I will be using the stock mufflers.

I thought about adding a K&N air filter, but then I have heard that I would need a tuner?

Curious to what everyone says!

Thanks for your time..
Bob

Every bike can benefit from a tune- If you have warranty/extended warranty, and wish to keep said coverage, leave it alone.

Dont NEED to, if you add a higher flow air cleaner then you should. But keep in mind your warranty implications.

Removing the catalytic converter already throws this out due to EPA requirements. If you don't have a warranty anymore then all is good.

My warranty will end in April of 2020 (here in Iowa, riding season is coming to a close, so by the time the roads are clean of sand and salt, the warranty will be over)

Has anyone just used "De-catted" pipes and not added a tuner? Looking for anyone who has traveled down that path and what issues if any they had on NOT ADDING a tuner.

Thanks all who have posted.

I guess that brings up my next thought/question

Once my warranty is up, whose tuner is plug and play without doing a bunch of mods. Not looking for a race bike, just something that will allow more air flow (K&N air cleaner) and then (de-catted pipes)

Thoughts?

Dynojet Powervision seems to be the most popular and user friendly plug n play tuner. Even then, a dyno is the only way to truly maximize tunes.

I'm a fan of the Power Commander V. If you want to keep is simple and not spring for a manual tune on a dyno, add the O2 sensors and allow the system to "auto tune"

Enjoying hearing the feedback.

It's not that I don't want to fork out the money for a "dyno tune" but it seems hard to find someone who is knowledgeable and affordable and will tune the bike here in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

if you want the most out of it, then find a reputable tuner first, then get the tuner that he recommends.

if you want "close enough", then get the tuner that you like the features of the most and go with that. powervision, fp3, and tts seem to be the big 3.
