Default Head lights go out! 1995 Electra Glide flhtcu

Hey everybody. Just got a 95 Electra Glide. I was riding it the other night, and had the low beams on no problem. Turned on the high beams and after a minute or so of riding lost all my lights! I slowed down as best I could and went for what I thought and hoped was a driveway. Turned my lights back to low beams waited about 30 seconds and boom lights came back on. Happened to me twice that night. So I figured well as long as I still have low beams I’ll be cool. And thought I’d trouble shoot deeper later thinking maybe the extra voltage on high kicked a broken wire in a relay apart or something. Thought it was strange that there would be two relays for high and low beams but figured ok. On my way in this morning I road 40 miles with no problems with the lights. Pulled over to get my badge to buzz through the gate and boom lights went off on low beams! I said ok. Now I have to figure it out. My question is has anybody had a similar issue. The whole thing feels like a relay or some kind of controller malfunction. Like a light module. Because every time it went out it takes about 30 seconds to come back on. Like it over loads and resets. I have a service manual and looked where it said the relay would be but didn’t have any luck finding it under the left side cover, right side cover or battery box. Thank you for the help

it could be the 15 amp light circuit, circuit breaker going south. on a bike that old I would replace all circuit breakers......if 95's have breakers. I don't know if they do or not.

There is no relay in the headlamp circuit on this bike.

The first thing to check is the electrical connector at the headlamp.

Pull the lites fuse, clean the connection points, throw the old fuse away and install a new one.

I’ll check that. Should also mention the turn signal aren’t working. Do you know if this system has a light control module?

The breakers are under the dash console, 2 on top 1 underneath the rubber holder.
the running lights are on a different breaker than the headlight.(at least my 94 FXSTC are)
so check the jumper wire on the ignition or the ignition itself.
The breakers are auto resetting.

The wiring diagram shows the lighting circuit protected by a fuse...

The symptoms described suggest a circuit breaker, which after a short while resets, having cooled down. Sounds like you have an electrical fault in your main beam circuit. I would start by checking the condition of your headlight bulb, to verify the condition of the two filaments, then chase the high beam wiring for a fault. Fuses blow and don't reset themselves.

Circuit breaker. Row of them inside of fairing behind the headlight. They do go bad without any other fault. I can't tell you which one it is.

Thanks everyone for replying. I took the outer fairing off and found the breaker that was tripping. Swapped it with another one of the same amperage and tried it again only to have the lights go off again. I pulled the plug off the back of the light and looked at the connector. Some of the leads look corroded and one lead doesn’t look factory at all. But the plug was pretty stinking hot to the touch! Was gonna swap that out and see if it takes care of it. If not I’ll be chasing it down as someone had suggested.
