Depend if you take primary off to replace stator. Read someone claim to grind his primary down so he could get the rotor off. It is kinda screwed up that you can't just pull out through the primary. I have never tried to see. I just replaced mine when primary was off.

I don't enjoy doing it, but its not that hard.

I ground it down just a tad to pull the rotor

I don't think using RTV to seal that leak is some kind of cop out. It works well. Even if those who replace the stator wind up putting some on the grommet anyway.

07 street glide, same problem. rtv black like has been said. Only thing I would add, once repaired do not run for 24 hrs. Give it time to cure. Works like a charm if done the right way. It feels like Christmas when its done. So easy and cheap I felt like santa came to see me.

kroozeabout.

Not saying a bad idea, but I didn't put any on when I replaced mine.

Looking at bolts in the pic, looks post 2007. Problem with this forums, is people don't realize there are differences in year, and what they have now is vastly different. Not saying can't grind and older bike, just that they are different.

Yeah thats not going to happen until I try what many others have done successfully.

Clean and Seal with Black RTV.

Changing a Stator because of an oil leak is as stated a million times over...

Good call. I did this repair on my '06 and on an old Kawasaki that I had and both were successful.
