I went from a shovel FLH to a EG Classic. Loved the EG, put all the removeable goddies on the back so I could strip it down for just me. The wife fell in love with an 03 Anna Ultra, so we had that for awhile, VERY nice ride but top heavy IMO. Now I have the RK with a quick detach tour pack for long distance and will be adding a detachable batwing fairing with radio, also for long distance 2-up. But when I'm by myself she's stripped down solo...cant do that with an EG standard!!
I was deciding between those two models myself recently. Living with good weather year round I wasn't sure I would like a fairing I couldn't remove. I also love the look of the RK without the windshield. And the windshield (when needed) provides plenty of protection for the climate I'm in. I also liked the chrome and black engine on th RK better than the silver engine on the EG.
Price mattered to me too, but in the end I bought the bike I really preferred even though it was more money. Don't regret it one bit.
They're both great bikes and there is no wrong choice. But buy the one you you like best regardless of cost. After you own it the cost won't matter. The price difference just isn't that great.
Road King... I think is the better all around Bike... Slap on a Fairing\Windshield for the open road... Take it off and you got a great classic looking bar hopper..
I inclined towards the RK. And I've always wanted one. Besides, if I want a fairing, I can get a removable one for less than $300.
Still, the $1000 price difference isn't meaningless, and it does complicate the decision a bit.
Here are a couple questions to ask yourself. Do you think the $300 fairings look good on the RK? Do you think taking all that stuff off is going to happen very often?
Everybody wants a bike that works for every situation but there are costs involved. Costs include dollars, appearance, convenience. I think ifyour not sure, take your time and wait a bit and ride the models again.
I went with the EGC for a few reasons. 1. The PRICE, I got mine for a lot less than any RK late in 06 when the 07 bikes were selling big. 2. I really like my silver engine. I think it is easier to keep clean and looking nice. 3. The wife really liked the fairing over the windshield look. It is all personal preference as to what you really want. I love my bike and have not regrets with the EGS. Good Luck Bryan
