Ive got an 07 FLHT that is completely stock and I think the pipes are just too darned quiet for highway safety with cars changing lanes right on top of me ect... Ive never owne a fuel injectedbike before and I have researched the threads as best I can. What I want to know is can I put Screaming Eagle (or similar) slipons on without changing my air cleaner or electronics download? The bike is plenty fast, Im just interested in a better sound. Its about all I can afford now anyways. Any suggestions appreciated.
Yes you can put on your slip-ons on and not change anything else. But sooner or later you are going to want to at least add some fuel management to get her running richer.
I went with Rush 2" slip ons, SE A/C, and the Stage I download. I have read that you can simply change the slip ons and not have any worries and that you need to address the download or fuel managment when you change the air intake. Some here have said that the 2" ones are too loud and have gone to the 1.75" or 1.50". I like the way the 2" sound, not too loud leaving the 'hood early in the morning, and sound like a Harley when you get on it.
I did the same thing as you and added Rush 2.0s with no other additions, I have an 07 Ultra and the pipes are too loud for my taste. It is making it hard to hear the radio, I have ordered the 1.5 baffles now and they should be here soon.
I went with the new screaming eagle performance slipons, one piece new for 07 and they are way better sounding than stock. Deeper rumble and good sound while riding but not as loud as even my vance and hines ovals which are a little quiter than most other slipons. You can also use these without issues on stock 07s. As for the sound and safety, thats a myth, read the article in the new hog tails about it. 70% of accidents are front end related at intersections. Sound, loud or quite had no effect. They talk about the fact if loud pipes save lives then goldwing riders should be the majority of accedents. Which of course is not true. Also they say loud pipes can cause more problems than they help by startleing older or unexperanced drivers. If you read the article it makes sence and Im not for loud or quite mufflers for any reason other than how I like the sound. Buy them because you like how it sounds but dont expect it to clear a path for you to glide thru.
