Default Question about a 05' RK Classic

Hello,

Looking at a new purchase which is a 05 road King with really really really low miles. The ad says "custom speedometer" and other extras that he supposedly ordered with the bike.

I've done a search and can't locate this style of speedometer. All of the RKs I see don't have this type.

My question is, has anyone ever seen this speedometer as a factory option for a RK or other bike?

The price is lower than normal but not out of this world.

Picture below...

Thanks for your help!

Looks like a speedometer out of the MoCo Accessory Catalog. So, could have been purchased later and put on the bike with 0 miles, OR it could have had the odometer synced up at the dealership to show previous mileage. No way to tell for sure. Mileage may be considered "unknown" without maintenance records of some kind to match the odometer reading, or receipt that speedometer was purchased and installed at time of bike purchase. Good luck.

Exactly what I was afraid of. But thanks for the info. I'll be wary and ask a lot of questions.

IIRC, its a HD Spun Aluminum Face speedo. I had one on my 06 FX.
Usually when ordering one of these you have to send them the mileage on your old Speedo and they put it on the new speedo.

Impressive. It looks identical to that and fits the road king, according to Harley davidsons website. Makes me feel a little better. Thanks!

I guess if I didn't make it clear, he is, supposedly, the original owner who purchased the bike as it is.

It is absolutely possible that he is the original owner and purchased the bike with that speedo...

It was not a factory option, but it could have been a dealer added accessory, or he could have had it put on at the time of delivery....

Over the years, Harley has offered minimal options from the factory. Things like the original alarm (early twin cams), ABS (from '06ish until it was standard equipment), and now their new traction control stuff... The bike was either ordered from the factory with it, or it didn't have it... the dealer decided how many bikes he would order with and without a factory installed option.

But dealers often purchased/installed accessory parts (like that speedo) to make a bike look custom on their sales floor..... It was a dealer installed accessory, not a factory option, but it was an HD part.......

Also, many customers will work certain accessories into their original purchase deal, to get the cost added to the loan, and have them installed prior to, or immediately after they take delivery....
