You guys are so awesome!!! I've been a member here since 2012 when I bought the old girl. I still appreciate the gang here. No smart ***, insulting comments but good advice. I really appreciate this.
I have to ask. Do you guys ever feel pressured to trade in your pre M8 bikes to upgrade to a newer model?
I ride a 2012 SG. My upgrades are listed in my signature. I love this "old" bike. I've had it long enough where I'm comfortable taking it apart and tinkering with it. Over the years, I learned the bike by making tons of mistakes and guys here helped me out. I've been stuck on the side of the road in west bubble **** on this bike but, eventually made it home. I've rode through hours of horrific rain and still love it. I remember when I originally bought the bike, I rode with some old guys, who handed my *** to me ( https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...-old-guys.html). Before C took my dad, we rode our bikes, from NC to St. Louis so he could see his parents grave site. He passed shortly afterwards. I've had some good times and memories and not so good times on this bike. I've done a good amount of upgrades but I'm wondering if I should keep it or trade it in.
I was about to have my local mod shop do a 107 Big Bore Kit but I keep eyeing a 2018 RK at my local dealership. I told them to hold off until I make a final decision. What sucks is, despite all of my upgrades, the dealership isn't offering much for a 2012. The longer I keep it, the less it's worth. So that's my dilemma, should I keep it and keep upgrading it or just start over with a newer bike. The bigger issue is, absolutely nothing from my current bike will transfer to a newer bike. So, it's literally starting over from scratch.
So again, guys with pre M8's, do you feel the pressure to upgrade or are you content with your "old bike."
Sorry about the long thread, yes, I'm a talker and a thinker...
I have a 2011 RKC. Bought it brand new and spent some cash to make it what I wanted. Love the bike still and would not go for a new one. I rode a friends m8 street glide and did not like it at all.The motor in my opinion lacks character, just does not feel right to me. Funny thing is my friend rode my RKC at the same time and really liked it as well. New is not always better. The m8 may have a little more power although I did not notice it and if more power is what you want just put a little cash into your engine. Much cheaper and better results.

Hey Don...I'm waiting for my mod guy to get back to me. This is the busiest time of the year. I'll be lucky to get my bike in my mid-March... But yeah, the 107 is going in...
Depending on how far you go with the 107 build you will probably end up with more fun on the built 107 than a stock M8. I have both a stock 2017 SG and a 2010 RK that I had built. They both have their pro's and con's. The main thing is to choose the correct cam to match your style of riding. Too often I see big dyno sheet numbers but they are all to the right of where I ride and I ride more aggressive than most.
My dream bike has always been a Fat Boy and I have had mine for the past 7 years. It fits me perfect and I have made it mine. Would I like an M8, yes but I would not trade mine in for one since they have butchered what a Fat Boy is/was. The new " Fat Boy" should have been given a different name.
I would love a new Road King or Road Glide but they are not in the budget.
My buddy recently upgraded from a '12 Road Glide to '19 Road Glide Special. One interesting thing he stated was that it just sounds weird. Doesn't have the rumble and sound characteristics as the '12 did.

They don't sound the same. The M8 is quiet and more refined. It also has that whirhing sound of the counter balancer.
Love my 2010 Twin Cams. Would certainly upgrade if necessary, but for now... It's all good...!!! The sweet rushing air over a Twin Cam (and my face) is exactly the same as for an M8.
