I was poking around the dealership and a salesman tried to sell me everything in sight. He asked me what I rode and I told him an EVO Road King. So then he asks me if I'm looking to upgrade? I just laughed.
I have to ask. Do you guys ever feel pressured to trade in your pre M8 bikes to upgrade to a newer model?
I ride a 2012 SG. My upgrades are listed in my signature. I love this "old" bike. I've had it long enough where I'm comfortable taking it apart and tinkering with it. Over the years, I learned the bike by making tons of mistakes and guys here helped me out. I've been stuck on the side of the road in west bubble **** on this bike but, eventually made it home. I've rode through hours of horrific rain and still love it. I remember when I originally bought the bike, I rode with some old guys, who handed my *** to me ( https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...-old-guys.html). Before C took my dad, we rode our bikes, from NC to St. Louis so he could see his parents grave site. He passed shortly afterwards. I've had some good times and memories and not so good times on this bike. I've done a good amount of upgrades but I'm wondering if I should keep it or trade it in.
I was about to have my local mod shop do a 107 Big Bore Kit but I keep eyeing a 2018 RK at my local dealership. I told them to hold off until I make a final decision. What sucks is, despite all of my upgrades, the dealership isn't offering much for a 2012. The longer I keep it, the less it's worth. So that's my dilemma, should I keep it and keep upgrading it or just start over with a newer bike. The bigger issue is, absolutely nothing from my current bike will transfer to a newer bike. So, it's literally starting over from scratch.
So again, guys with pre M8's, do you feel the pressure to upgrade or are you content with your "old bike."
Sorry about the long thread, yes, I'm a talker and a thinker...
Been there, done that got that.
I'm faster than the majority of your 107's as I am a 107 that is and has been cammed and dynoed.
Hey guys, I really appreciate the honest, candid responses. This is why I've stayed with this forum for so many years. I'm keeping my old *** 2012. lol. But, I am going to have the 107 BB kit installed. I've gotten some good things to think about from here. Even if I bought the 2018, by the time I pay it off and the warranty expired, I'll be exactly where I'm at now. Here's a current pic of my 2012. As my wife tells me, I'm not a photographer. I recently did the Advan-Black: stretched bags; rear fender; tour pak and stretched side cover. Oh, and Woods 777 cams.

She looks brand new guy! Keep me updated on that 107 kit. Are you going with FM?

Hey man. I'm using a local mod shop. A few months ago, I had them install the 777's and dyno tune. I'm going to have them do a 107 kit. Here's the chart for the 777's. HP = 92.87/Torque = 109.71.
i wanted the 777 because it's a highway cam. It's not a good cam for on the streets but it does what it's suppose to do on the highway and that's what I want. So going back to my original post, I guess its best to stay with my 103.
I sold my 05 EG Standard back in 2014 - both my hips had gotten so bad it was too painful to ride. Got both hips replaced 3 years later and started looking again after I lost the Vette. I had a choice between a blue 16 RGS and a red 17 RG. I wanted the red color but preferred the twin cam that I was familiar with (didn’t know much about the issues with the M8 at the time). Went with the 16 RGS.
No regrets here and I’ll keep it as long as I can!
Keep the bike and leave it at 103 or keep the bike and go 107?
I'm confused also... Unless the top end needs rebuilt, why not just pull heads and have them ported and shaved 0.020" or so? If I could've found a decent set of 103 take off cylinders/pistons when I was upgrading my 96" I sure wouldn't have bothered with boring and expensive new pistons for 4 add'l inches. JMO.
