Default Cam question

Hello all.

I have a 2011 Limited with an fp3, s&s power tune duals and supertrapp fatshots slipons. I'm getting ready to purchase a cam. I've done a lot of research and I know that cams like the tw222, cr570-2 and Andrews 48h are true bolt in cams and the tw555, cr574 and Andrew's 57h are advertised as bolt in but do better with head work or higher compression. I think I'm going to do head work within 1 year but I'm not sure. Will I be happy going from a stock cam to a cr575, tw555 or Andrews 57h? I would think any of them would be a great improvement over stock anyway but I dont know if these cams would be doggy or would stumble at low rpms or have other negatives prior to head work, ect. At first I thought I'd buy the best bolt in cam and just get another cam if I upgrade but I've already made poor choices with other upgrades and dont want to do it again. It costs too much. Any thoughts or shared experiences on this will be appreciated.

On another note, I've also wondered if the tunable mufflers like supertrapp would help with low end on the so called mid rpm cams like I mentioned above.

Gregg

I guess my question was more concerning whether there would be negative affects not shown on the graphs. For example, if I go from stock to a cr575 cam before doing headwork, it will still feel more powerful when I twist the throttle, correct?

In my opinion do a cam for what you have now not for what you might do in the future.

It will be better then stock of course but the big question is if you do this and then dont have the money/time down the road will you be wishing you had waited to do it all at once or just put in the correct cam for now ?

I am very happy with the 48s in my ultra and never heard any say they were a waste of time

Good Luck

Dave

Another option would be to do the heads now and cams down the road. I know the cams are more fun, but if you do the heads first you know you won’t be disappointed with the cam choice.

If you can afford it, do everything once, good quality stuff out there from place’s like fuel-moto, Revolution Performance, Axtell, Tman, Dave Mackie, and so on.

S&S 583 would also be great choice with a proper tune. Not sure what your riding style is or if you ride alone or with a passenger.

I dig your signature line. Best book series I think I've ever read, and the best opening line ever.
