Got an 08 UC that has an intermittent charging problem.
In the oem manual they refer to the ground for the -neg side of the voltage reg goes to a Left Dirty GND ( ground).
I got it ck'd out with some good ol digging around .
But if someone knows what the H^%& they are referring to I'd like to know.
Check all grounds, battery to frame and your positives as well. Voltage regulator is supposed to be "cleanly" grounded to the frame as well. I took mine off and cleaned where it bolted to the frame. It cleared an intermittent problem like you are having. PO had put a new one on and only finger tightened it. Mine is an older bike and and one leg bolted to my relay, check all those as well.
Look at the bottom side of of your VR and make sure it isn't cracked. If after doing the easy stuff it still happens then you need to make a determination if the problem is the VR or the stator.
