I have posted a few times about having a rattle/knocking sound when my bike was at idle. Service man found it. It was the stablizer bar under the gas tank. Nut had worked loose and when ever the bike was warmed up and shaking at idle it was rattleing like crazy. Nut was finger loose. Tightened it up and a little locktight......no more rattle.[sm=smiley31.gif]
Heck I may have a couple of those loose too. [sm=drooldude.gif]
Seriously though. I thought if it ever happened to anyone else maybe you'd know where to look. I guarentee you won't like the noise it was making if it happens to your bike. It was really hard to pin point as you couldn't tell exactly where the dang noise was coming from. I looked everywhere my mechanical skills would allow me. Pulling the gas tank wasn't one of those skills. The noise kept getting progressively worse and had me worried something serious might be wrong. Once the mech. pulled the tank it didn't take him long to find the problem.
I had about the same thing on my 1998 FXDWG about a month ago. Bike would vibrate something terrible at a certain RPM. Found out that my mount between the jugs was worn so replaced it and realigned the engine (there is a certain order you must do this in for a rubber mounted engine) and still wasn't 100% happy so again replaced the mount with a Velva Touch mount and all I can say is WOW it really made a difference. Took some time getting everything aligned but now it's so much better than it was before.
