so I know this has been beat to death but I just found out a few weeks ago about this issue. I pulled off my cam cover to inspect. From the pictures how long do I have until these go bad? I won't own this bike forever and know about the upgrade but its pricey. I would do the work myself but if I can get away with a few more years that would be great due to finances right now. Any help would be much appreciated!
ted.
To keep costs down, You don't need to get the hydraulic plate. Just get the upgraded pads and install them. Have not heard any horror stories on the Cyco replacement pads.
I'd be worried about those chunks missing. I bet your oil pump is scored, mine was and my tensioners had less wear (yet chunks missing like yours). Believe it or not that material DOES score aluminum and those chunks can interfere with oil passages.
Manny,
In the photo; Is that a chunk out of the backside top of the shoe, or just the image?
Also, youre not telling us about the inner shoe condition, it could be worn even more. When I did mine at 21K (yeah, 21), I installed new shoes & adjustable push rods. About as cheap as you can get.
How many miles on bike and what year bike? How many miles do you ride in a year? Before you try and get away with a couple more years, it would depend on yearly mileage.

It's just the picture. Here is a picture of the back side. I need to probably get a better pic but plan on doing that tomorrow.

Thanks for the reply. I have 23k on it. Its an 04 road king classic. I rider about 2k a year due to having a 2 year old and living in Colorado. Don't enjoy riding in the cold.
