Longer video, skip to about 30 minute mark and they go into detail about it.
I called to order one for my 12 Road Glide today. They were out of stock till next week. They must be selling well. I want the gear reduction without eliminating the compensator. My comp is starting to get noisy. I don't want to put another Harley one in to have to replace it again at full price later. The serviceability of the Dark Horse is a big attractant for me.

The HD company line is that it reduces, dampens pulses from the engine for better comfort. There are some who have switched to a solid engine gear and have not liked the way it felt.
Many others believe the compensator is there to soften shock loads to the drive train. Many think this is necessary due to the way Harley presses cranks in their flywheels. Many consider that a weak link. They believe the compensator protects the flywheel from harsh drivetrain shocks, which can cause scissoring..
Probably a combo of both...
I switched to a solid engine sprocket and from a comfort stand point, I have not noticed a difference.
There are several reports on forums of people with OEM flywheels that have gone to solid engine sprockets, ride hard, and have no reported problems.
If I had an OEM Harley flywheel and wanted to switch to a 32T engine sprocket, I would definitely go with the Dark Horse 32T compensator... I've read a bunch about the testing and development of that compensator. What I have read about it, coupled with their reputation for excellent products and services, I would consider the DarkHorse Man-O-War compensator a no brainer for anyone wanting to switch from the HD compensator.
I am totally pleased with the performance, quality , and ease of install with the Vulcan 32T solid engine gear kit (same as Twin Power kit). I am not worried about flywheel issues, because I have an S&S 124" engine with S&S T-series cases, and an S&S 3-piece flywheel with a Timken lefty bearing...
FWIW.... I bought my 23T solid engine sprocket kit just before I read about the DarkHorse Man-O-War Compensator, or I would have probably gone with that unit..... just because...
OP, good luck with your decision...
