Default Jims 1743 Dimensions

Aloha,
I have the wobbeling issue at my 1995 E-Glide and now after 100.000 mls I will renew several parts like steering beareing and also the swingarm cleve blocks.
Therefore I ordered the V-Twin Rebuild Kit 44-2044 cause the Kit with the spheric bearings was actual not available.
Howewer now i need the replacement tool from Jims 1743 but it's not fast enough to get here in Switzerland.
But I have access to turn machine and I'm know how to use.
Is there anybody who can share the dimensions (diameters and length)
from the 3 tool parts
PRESS PLUG1743-1
PRESS CUP INNER1743-2
PRESS CUP OUTER1743-3
So I can turn them by my own and can change the blocks.
It would be verry helpfull to me.
Thanks in Advance
Best regards
Blumi

Hi Blumi, from the UK. Have you tried Zodiac? They are a Dutch H-D specialist who import and distribute parts for our bikes, there is also British firm, A R Harley, so check out both of them. I haven't checked, but either of them may be able to supply Jims or similar tools.

I should add that we have a dedicated section for Evo bikes, where you can meet up with fellow owners. I've owned my 1990 FLHS from new and even briefly visited Switzerland on it.

As for the cleve blocks, I really do suggest you replace them with a later alternative. I did that on my bike many years ago, using a True-Track kit, although there are others available these days. Cleve blocks are a rubbery compound, which includes a liquid and look suspiciously like vibration dampers to me, intended for a quite different application, not motorcycle swingarm bushings! Mine are solid metal and don't require a fitting kit such as the Jims one you ask about, so you can some money by buying an alternative kit. You can also spend a little more by buying a True-Track stabiliser kit, which with new bushings will greatly improve your ride.

Aloha,
Thanks for your response and input.
I made the measurements at the bushings and made a drawing for our apprentice and he turned me the parts.
I also ordered the PS Touring Link.
But my first step to solve the wobble issue starts tomorrow by changing the neck bearing.
To be continued...

Aloha,
today I start to remove the old neck stem bearing at my 1995 FLHTC.
Bearings are changed, tomorrow I reassamble all.
I could see good the marks from the rolers.
The movement left to right was smooth but a little to easy.
First I thing about just to adjust but after removing the bearing I check the surface at the races and decide to change.
To remuve the old races I use a Ř 22 mm Steel rod, and huge hammer.
It was a little tricky but it works cause there is to less surface where the rod conect.
To remove the lower bearing, I use the traditional way, cut of the cage and than cutting off the inner race with a hispeed dremel and 1" cutting blade.
For the assambly I use the "awesome" cheap Bearings from HD Switzerland (49.99$ each).
I know I could use all ***** from ebay but the provide a good service and communication wile checking my bike 20-30 minutes for free.
So for me the deal fits.
As grease i use lithium grease from LM.
To tighten the bearing adjuster I havn't the right key so I improvise with a 1/2" nut and the PS shock key.
I tight the bearing adjuster that it moves smoth but not to easy.
The Harley mechanic told me i should tight first a little harder that it runs smooth cause the bearings will set down a little.
For all these work I use cosy 3.5h include removing the fairing.
I know it could run faster but i have holidays so no rush.
Slow is save and save is fast ;-)
Tomorrow I reassamble the whole stuff and hope it works better.
Thereafte I upgrade the rear fork with new bushings and the Touring link.
