Since then the old motor -- or what's left of it -- has sat in my garage, which you can see is in need of a cleaning.
Should I sell it, or just donate it to the guy in my neighborhood who recycles scrap metal for the scouts?

Donate it. Either to an Indy shop, a school or your scrap guy. This is how good karma starts. If you dont get rid of it, its just going to sit and take up space.
Why not pull it apart and see what is salvageable? At least then you wouldn't be asking yourself any " what ifs" if you tossed it, +1 on keeping the cases if nothing else.
