Booster Pack procedure question...... Since I'd be connecting directly to the starter and not to the battery...is it correct to have the battery switch set to "ignition" and the handlebar "kill switch" set to "ON" and the cycle be in "NEUTRAL"??? I also assume that once all is set correctly THEN all I need to do is press the "START or ON" button on the booster pack and the cycle will fire up......CORRECT?

I ask because, most booster pack instructions explain the jump procedure by connecting to the battery only and not directly to the starter.

That cable can be considered the battery positive.

On my bike I would have to take the seat off to get at the battery positive terminal.

On HD Touring models the easiest way is to connect to the cable bolt on the starter. My question relates to the procedure since the starter could cause the cycle to jump if not in neutral.

That cable goes direct from the starter to the battery. Either end of the cable it makes no difference where you connect.

There is an interlock on my bike. It will not crank if it is gear.

Just look at any of the wiring diagrams for 2014 bikes - https://serviceinfo.harley-davidson....8ec6c6168!!4!1

The starter won't spin by connecting, and turning on the jump pack. You'll need to follow the normal procedure for starting the bike as if the battery was good.

You are not connecting to the starter motor lead but rather the starter solenoid that is integral to the starter.

As stated above it is literally the other end of the positive battery cable. Once connected and the jump-box is on/energized you start the bike with the start button on the handlebar, in neutral, ignition on, run switch on just like any other start.

Thanks.....I was under the impression (evidently wrong) that once connected to the starter and ground, the pressing of the booster packs "START" will start the cycle. Now, from what you are saying, once the booster pack is connected to the starter and ground I should start the cycle as usual with the handlebar starting switch.

Thanks guys for the help!

I asked the question, in the first place, because I watched the video that is linked in a previous replay and the HD tech SPECIFICALLY said that once the battery pack is connected MAKE SURE THE CYCLE IS IN NEUTRAL......PRESS THE BUTTON ON THE BOOSTER PACK....and the cycle will start. He makes no mention of starting the cycle using the handlebar switches.

I didn’t watch the video, but if the guy said that he should have all his tools taken away.
