I would STRONGLY advise you to use a bike oil, which has a higher Zinc content for less wear

I have gotten away from the synthetics in my motor, and am back into the Valvoline oils (VR1) in my bikes due to the high zinc content, and they do not thin down to nothing when they get hot. But I change my engine oil every 3000 miles, the other 2 holes are every 6K

I am still using Bel-Ray or quality synth in the other holes.

as for K&N, I have never heard anyone say anything bad about them, when in doubt check out the BoB Is The Oil Guy website he has tested them all

even though the primary oil is spec-ed to change at 10k, i always do it at the same time as the engine oil. the primary gets really dirty, really fast, and does not take a whole lot of oil, so no biggie to change it. on my older bike, i would go ahead and do the clutch adjustment at the same time, but with hydraulic clutch, no adjustment.

if you're picking up the 15w-50 from walmart, go ahead and grab some shell rotella t 15w-40. around $12 for a gallon jug. it is jaso rated for wet clutch use so won't cause your clutch to slip.

the transmission is spec-ed at 20k for the change, not 10k. for that i would use supertech gear oil, fully synthetic 75w-140. also from walmart. about $12.

i know you're thread started off not asking about 'what' oil to use, but like any oil related thread, it started morphing that way and i figured since you were going to walmart anyway.....

Don't run 20-50 in the primary. It's too thick, and will cause fluid dynamics drag since the oil can not clear the plates fast enough on lever pull, and will cause excess slip on engagement from the fluid not able to vacate fast enough from the plates as well.

You are saying rotella for the primary? Thats easy, since I use that in my Duramax.

Ok issue settled. Ordered (not available in stores here it says) the oil change kit, with 4qt vtwin 20-50 and k&n filter. Will prob use the rotella in primary, and whatever I decide on for gearbox, when time comes

Thanks to all

I disagree with you and the MOCO disagrees with you! 20/50 is fine for the primary.
