I am in the process of switching the cams in my motor and was checking the service limits on the oil pump. All good apart from the gyrotors only stand about 1mm proud of the assembly; service manual calls for 2mm.
Anyone else come across this? The motor certainly isn’t having any issues with oiling as far as I can tell.
Some threads I’ve read sort of point toward having a little less pressure might be better to avoid damage to the cam plate. Eco oil pump never even had the spring washer....? (Which is the bit they say replace if out of tolerance)
Yes the 1mm vs 2mm is a bunch of BS. 1mm is OK. If you want replace the wavy washer. Nothing wrong with the stock oil pump. I had a 02 RKC that had 80k with 55-60K as a 10.8 to 1 compression motor. Bike ran fine. Sold it to a bud with like 83K on it. Would have kept it if he didn't wan't it. It was replaced with a 17 M8 RK. Another good bike.
02s were the best except that the head breathers are plastic. Replace with cast or stamped.
Yup, my '02 Road King has similar mileage (about 20k of them mine), upgraded the breathers when I did my first tensioner replacement; just going through an uprade to Andrews 21s.
Didn't bother replacing the wavy washer, but have installed a Baisley oil spring (the lower one) - just replaced the two bearings in the cam plate, waiting for my tensioner shoe replacement jig to arrive before I borrow the tools to do the inner cam bearings and press the cams back in.
She had new lifters and adjustable pushrods about 3000 miles ago.....can't wait to experience the new cams!
