Having new bearings put on my front wheel ( 10 Road King ) , can someone tell me what the torque specs are for the axle nut and the 2 smaller nuts for the axle clamp ?
Yes , I have a service manual , but loaned out . I sent a text , but I haven't received a reply yet .
Thank-you QC , does sound right , I was thinking 65 and 15 when I did it last spring , just wanted to be sure . Only 15000 km on these bearing and their shot .
Update , picked up my wheel from the shop , my guess on bad bearings was correct ( 7000 miles ) . the tech said he couldn't even spin them by hand . I got the wheel installed while lightning kept the shop well lit and a down pour to go with it , guess I won't be test riding until tomorrow , but I have good faith the bike is feeling better now .
So , if you start feeling a slight vibration through your road pegs while resting your boots on them and your handle bars are shaking your fillings loose , check your front bearings . I removed both brake calipers and gave the wheel a good spin , with my ear up against the axle I could hear a " tapping " noise that told me something was up .
Hoping this helps others , if I had left this , it could have ended badly for me , remember we only have 2 wheels , ride safe everyone .
Normally I don't , but this guy is a good stand up person . Shortly after I got the wheel installed , he sent a text telling me he was at work and would bring it over asap . Sure enough , he showed up along with a case of beer ( my favorite ) as a sign of gratitude . He's good in my book .
