1. The KuryAkyn kit comes with a wiring harness.
2. The KuryAkyn kit comes with a black mounting bracket! This was what was important to me. This allows you to mount the Wolo air horn to the bracket assembly instead of the horn bracket. There are a couple of advantages to this.
a) The bracket assembly is stronger than the horn bracket. I've read reports of the horn bracket breaking due to the vibration and heavier weight of the Wolo air horn when mounted to it.
b) The black mounting bracket centers the Wolo air horn between the jugs and raises it slightly compared to just mounting the Wolo to the horn bracket. I think the installation looks better using the KuryAkyn black mounting bracket.
sounds like BS, but you are in Commifornia, so there may be a traffic law that fits smh
Since it's been mentioned a couple times... Most states have a statute that regulates the operation of a vehicle horn... even here in CA, it's not used much, mostly due to the subjective nature of the violation...
In CA, it is CVC 27000
27000 (a)
A motor vehicle, when operated upon a highway, shall be equipped with a horn in good working order and capable of emitting sound audible under normal conditions from a distance of not less than 200 feet, but no horn shall emit an unreasonably loud or harsh sound. An authorized emergency vehicle may be equipped with, and use in conjunction with the siren on that vehicle, an air horn that emits sounds that do not comply with the requirements of this section.
27001 (a) & (b)
(a) The driver of a motor vehicle when reasonably necessary to insure safe operation shall give audible warning with his horn.
(b) The horn shall not otherwise be used, except as a theft alarm system which operates as specified in Article 13 (commencing with Section 28085 ) of this chapter.
I suspect 27001 (a) & (b) were passed to protect people from the clown(s) honking their horns for reasons other than safe vehicle operation or excessively honking their horns at a perceived slight by another driver, as in a road rage type situation ... we've all heard them... It can be obnoxious....
Just out of curiosity, did it really matter if you blew your horn? Or was it just saying idiot to the cager? Thinking you can defend yourself with a horn on a bike is like a bug giving the finger to the semi as it meets the windshield at 70 MPH.
Been riding bikes since the 60s and I cannot recall one time a horn served a purpose. (other to let someone know I didn't like that and that these days can get you killed on a bike)
To be effective you need to hit the horn before the cager pulls out in front of you, and it's not obvious many times whether the cager see's you or not. I thought the one that pulled out in front of me at close range was looking right at me but apparently she was only looking thru me and my Electra glide with 3 lights on.
I put n extra loud horn on my motorcycles after that and use them liberally if there's any possibility that they don't see me. If the car driver is offended oh well it's better than them causing an accident. Sure it'll technically be their fault but I'll still be the one who pays the price.
Lately I haven't had to use the horn, people have been giving me some kind of sign that they see me, including waving, and one guy gave me a thumbs up.
Stock horn off a 17 or newer touring bike can wake the dead, I got pulled over for leaning on mine when some idiot cut me off, cop told me it was loud enough to be considered road rage and threatening.
`Sounds like another ***** liberal cop who doesn`t like bikers.....
