O.K. Here goes, I see that this has been talked about extensivly but I still can't seem to find the answer to the problem I have. This is My first year of owning a HD. Back in March I bought my first 2003 Fatboy with a stage one kit and had zero problems. In september, I bought a Brand New Road Glide, (which I love). I just took it in for the 1000 mile check and decided to add the Stage I: Kerker slip ons,SE intake and Power commander. Now since I've got it back at times it will cough back through the intake when I throttle up to downshift. At one time it actually killed the engine! I do get the popping on decel but I don't mind that so much. I had the Dealer look at it and they said they could not get it to act up. They told me I must be turning the throttle when I start it. I'm guarantee I'm not doing this! My fuel milage also went down from 45 mpg to 33-35 mpg, granted I've been a little hard on the throttle but could it be that much of a adverse effect on my mileage? Is a map change the only way to fix this or is it something that comes with the price of the stage I?
Secondly has anyone noticed when the the rpm's hit about 2000 on a decel that the bike learches forward a bit? The dealer acknowelges the problem but they say the touring 06's all do it because of the ECM setup. Is this true?
I just picked up my Stage 1 stuff today ('06 FLHTI), so I can't help any on your mileage topic, although imo I don't think your mileage should've decreased that much with the Stage 1.
But I get that lurching at around 2K myself...sometimes it's a bit disconcerting when entering a corner or coming up on someone and needing to decelerate quickly... I could see where that could be a real safety concern to a new rider...I've read where the '06's will stumble or stall sometimes when cold and making a slow turn, also...it's happened to me twice, and like I mentioned, a new rider could possibly find themselves in trouble...I'm hoping the MoCo is studying this and realizing it's not an isolated incident.
Thanks for the reply! Good luck with the Stage I install and let's hope that HD will take a look at the ECM learching/stumbling problem in the near future!
The problem is that there are no maps for 06 from Dyna Jet (Power Commander) yet. The only thing that is working well on the 06's with modifications is the HD Racetuner. You can adjust your fuel and air for each cylinder seperately do get a much more efficiant burn without the backfiring and popping. Really helps with your gas milage too.
Hey Glider,
I too have the 06 RG, and love it. I have identified the stumble between 1800 rpm to 2200 rpm. When it happened the first time, I was in a slow righ handerand felt like I was going to drop it. I now know better and keep the revs up in the turn. I have done the stage 1 but not the pipes as of yet thinking it would eliminate the surging, no luck. My mileage has stayed ok but I have noticed some oil puking out the rear breather tube. I will be going in for the 1K service next week to try to sort things out. I may invest in the TFI and see if that helps. I had good luck with it on my last bike.
The 2006 map (at least the one I use for V&H basic slip ons, SE air cleaner, and stock ECM) has not changed. I opened both up in the PC software last night and they are 100% identical.
