I have a 2006 Electra Glide, Started to run really bad, backfiring stalling out etc. so I replaced the fuel filter and check valve line. I put a gallon in it and ran good, went to work still good. On the way back I filled it up, immediately the fuel gauge bounced around then went to empty, Volt gauge bounced around from over 16 to 12. Got home and put a multimeter and at battery running showed 12.49.
Is that the regulator doing that or short in the fuel sender? I did have the fuel pump unit out several times. Is there a way to test the fuel sender? Can I run it without the fuel sender unit installed? Any and all help is appreciated.
These 2 links should help you narrow down your issue . Before you start testing make sure your battery is fully charged , then take it in and have it load tested . Check your battery cables ( clean and tight )
Get yourself a can of electrical contact cleaner and clean the connections at the voltage regulator and stator , also check for damaged wire and pins .
Yes , does sound like a bad regulator . Good luck !
I had problem starting the bike, just barely cranked over. I finally got it started. I went for a ride and notice the voltmeter jumping all over the place. I decided to turn around and head back home. It turned out to be a bad battery. I replace the battery and all was good.

on the regulator and all checked out. I hooked the stator to the regulator and started it up, he got 17 volts in the video I think, I got like 1 or 2. It is a new regulator thats why hesitant to call it bad but the output is bad so it is? I really hate electrical work. Thanks for help and info.
