Default road king

Hey guys, so I currently have a 2002 nighttrain that I've been using to ride around town. Im looking at getting a road king, most likely trading my bike in. My question is, is the road king a good touring to go on trips for 500-700 miles on, 5 or 6 speed and why? I'm not looking to get anything new, just one around the 05-07 years hopefully with a 96 in her. Thank you.

It's called The King for a reason...

6 speed is the way to go.

If you are cramped - get a police seat.

Road Kings are awesome to ride. Get as new as you can, as there were some significant chassis and other improvements made over the years. As was mentioned, 6-speed is the way to go. It will lower RPM at cruising speed and thus will save you fuel. Important while touring. As for 500-600 miles, no problem. If you set it up right, that can be a day ride.

Ditto on the six speed. I don't think you'll be cramped, but sit on one just to be sure.

As mentioned, get the 6-speed and as new as you can get. 2009 had the frame change and is currently being used on the new bikes today, and easier to get accessories and parts.

The 2008 and newer got the 6-gal tank so less stops and the 6th gear gives better MPG. They also got the Brembo brakes and throttle-by-wire if that matters to you. The RK Classic also came with cruise control and that will be very handy on those long hauls. 500-600 miles will be a breeze on the RK. The cruise will make it even easier.

I go from NC to FL frequently (575 miles each way) on my 13 King. It's an easy ride for me.

I definitely want a 6 speed and cruise control. What should I pay for an 07-09 road king at a dealer?

Can't go wrong with the King... 2009 and 2010 should be sliding down in price some given that they are now 10 years + out the door.
