Default Stripped Flairing Windshield Screw - Help

I seemed to have stripped the front flairing windshield bushing when I re-installed the front half of the flairing.

Any ideas on how to fix/replace. The biggest problem I see is getting the hex screw out as it just keeps spinning, bushing and all.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.the bike isstill under warranty, would this be covered?

Not a problem. The bushing HD installs press in. Go to your dealer. Walk up to the parts counter. Tell them what happened. They have replacements that are threaded and will screw in instead of press in. Go ahead and get 3. The other two will loosen up eventually. I went ahead and replaced all 3 of mine after the first one stripped. Don't worry about this. You are definitely not the first (or last) guy to do this.

As far as getting the stripped one out, I'd pull out all the screws except that one. It might pull right out with the fairing or when you pull on the fairing, you might put enough pressure on it that the bushing won't turn when you unscrew it.

One note, when you put them in. They're soft brass with a slot. The ends will break off where they're slotted. After I broke the first two off, I used a screwdriver to start it and then a pair of needle-nose or vise-grips to turn it in the rest of the way. I screwed them all the way in until I couldn't screw them anymore.

The threaded insert you need is HD # 16585-96. Try installing the insert by using the the screw that holds the fairing on. Screw it all the way into the insert and then drive the insert into the fairing by driving the screw.

Use a ( if i remember correctly) 3/8" bottom tap in the holes and the replacement inserts will screw right in and stay tight.

That would be a 3/8-16 tap.

That way I just replaced mine was to use a nut as a spacer between the new brass insert and the windshield screw. The slotted end goes into the inner fairing, the slots cutting the path for the insert. The nut takes up the space on the screw so you can simply use a screwdriver and screw the insert into the hole all the way.
